Man with stab wounds tells police his sister is dead

A WOUNDED man remains under police guard in a Sydney hospital after reporting the stabbing murder of his sister to police in the early hours of Friday morning.

In the first of a bizarre series of events, a man with stab wounds to his chest walked into the Gladesville police station and told officers his sister was dead.

He was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.

Inside a home in Wollongong, more than 70km from where the man reported the death, police discovered a woman's body.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy but it's believed the woman was stabbed.

The street outside the Gladesville police station remained closed on Friday as forensic officers examined bloodstains allegedly found in the car the brother had been travelling in.

A crime scene was also established at the home where his sister's body was discovered.

Neighbours told the Illawarra Mercury the brother and sister, both aged in their 40s, had moved to the area about four years ago.

The brother was expected to be charged when his condition improved.
