Man pays compensation for abusing woman on radio for years

USING a CB radio network to reveal a woman's personal details as a place to get "free sex" has cost a man $10,000 in compensation.

Christopher Blume also has a restraining order after breaching anti-discrimination laws when he abused and vilified a 63-year-old Yugoslavia woman repeatedly over four years.

He was accused of using explicitly sexual and racist language towards the woman and encouraging listeners to attend her home for sex.

Blume also published a picture of her and her vehicle on YouTube.

Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal member Jeremy Gordon said, in a written judgment, that anyone in repeater range, with the right equipment and an appropriate licence, could hear the radio conversation on the CB channels that Blume was broadcasting on.

"It is clear from the words used and the circumstances of their use that Mr Blume intended to offend, humiliate or intimidate Ms Casey," he said.

"If he didn't then he should have realised that it would do so.

"One particularly distressing aspect of this case to (the woman) I believe, was having her address put about as a place for sex, and on the evidence some truck drivers did attend her property or call her on the telephone asking for this."

Mr Gordon said he also was satisfied calling the woman other derogatory names had the "effect of inciting contempt for or severe ridicule" on the ground of race.
