Man found with drugs, weapons while daughters in car

A MAN will face court today after weapons and drugs were allegedy found in his car after he was stopped by police at Tweed Heads, all while his two daughters were in the vehicle.

Officers from the Tweed Byron LAC police stopped a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee on Wharf St at about 3.40pm yesterday and spoke to the driver, a 42-year-old man, who had his two daughters, aged two and four, in the vehicle.

Police will allege a search of the car found knuckle-dusters, a razor knife, Diazepam, MDMA, Xanax, Seroquel, cannabis, Ice, scales, and a number of items believed to have been stolen in addition to electrical goods and perfume.

All items were seized for forensic examination and the man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

He was charged with possessession of a prohibited weapon, custody of an offensive implement in a public place, custody of a knife in a public place, four counts of possession of a prohibited drug, supply of prohibited drugs, and two counts of possessing a prescribed restricted substance.

The girls were taken by family members after being contacted by police.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Byron Bay Local Court today.
