Man fined after early morning Sydney Harbour swim

GOING for a late night dip in Sydney Harbour has set a Redfern man back $250.

The 35-year-old sparked a massive search after he was seen jumping a fence, diving into the water and swimming towards the Harbour Bridge about 2am Monday.

An urgent broadcast was issued to boats within the harbour to be aware of the man as a potential hazard.

He was eventually found on the north side of the harbour and taken to hospital where he was treated for cuts.

He has since been fined $250 for obstructing or impeding navigation of a vessel.
