Man feared drowned after plunging over waterfall - Ebor

UPDATE 11AM: AN SES spokeswoman confirmed her crew had been stood down this morning due to poor conditions at Ebor Falls.

The SES was called in last night after the man fell from Ebor Falls and searched for a couple of hours before the search was called of.

It resumed this morning at 8am but called off again due to the volume of water at the base of the falls.

The spokeswoman said her crew were on standby to search again when conditions improve.

EARLIER: A MAN is missing - feared drowned - after falling over a waterfall at Ebor.

The 37-year-old man was travelling from Armidale to Kempsey with friends on Sunday just before 6pm when they stopped for a break at Ebor Falls, about 80km east of Armidale.

Witnesses told police the man walked to the lookout and then out onto the rock ledge at the top of the falls, but then lost his balance and fell head first over the edge.

Police from New England Local Area Command and State Emergency Service crews responded to the incident, west of Dorrigo.

They conducted a search of the immediate area, but were unable to find the man.

The operation was suspended at nightfall and will to resume at 8am today, however, heavy water flow due to the falls being in flood, as well as poor weather conditions, could hamper the search effort.
