Man faces court after car chase

A MAN will face court today after allegedly leading police on a chase along the Pacific Highway from West Ballina to Cabbage Tree Island.

At 1.50pm yesterday, Ballina Highway Patrol officers watching for speeding cars on the Pacific Highway at West Ballina spotted a car with an expired registration driving.

The vehicle eventually stopped in a paddock and the driver fled on foot. A male passenger remained in the vehicle.
Police arrested the driver a short time later.

The 32-year-old man was taken to Ballina Police Station where he was charged with seven offences including: Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously (Skye's Law), driving whilst disqualified, use unregistered vehicle and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Ballina Local Court today. The passenger in the vehicle was not charged.
