Man dies on Byron sand dune from suspected drug overdose

A MAN has died from a suspected drug overdose on sand dunes at Byron Bay.

Tweed Byron police Inspector Mick Dempsey said the body of the 40-year-old man was found on sand dunes about 12.20pm today.

Insp Dempsey said the man's death was not suspicious and it had nothing to do with schoolies celebrations currently going on at Byron Bay.

He said the cause of death was a suspected drug overdose which would be confirmed when a post mortem was conducted.

Insp Dempsey said the results of the post mortem could take up to six weeks.
