Man dies after being hit by car

A MAN critically injured in a pedestrian crash at Coffs Harbour yesterday has died in hospital this morning.

Police believe about 10.15pm yesterday, a 20-year-old Sydney man alighted from a taxi on the Pacific Highway at Sapphire Beach and ran in front of the cab into the path of an oncoming car.

He was struck by the red Mazda 323, driven by a 25-year-old woman from Queensland.

The man, from Gladesville, who was visiting Coffs Harbour during the 2010 University Games, suffered serious head injuries and a fractured foot in the crash.

Police and ambulance paramedics were called and he was taken to the Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition.

He died at 4.25am this morning at Coffs Harbour Hospital.

Police from the Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command are continuing to investigate the incident and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
