Man in court on 168 child sex charges

A MAN has fronted a Brisbane court on dozens of child sex charges after arriving back in the country after he was kicked out of Thailand.

Jason Daron Mizner, 41, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning wearing a green watchhouse-issue jumper.

He is facing 168 charges including 74 counts of possessing child exploitation material, 39 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and six counts of making child exploitation material.

Police allege he committed the crimes on the Gold Coast between 2003 and 2005.

Defence lawyer Bruce Peters made no application for bail on his client's behalf during the brief appearance.

Mr Peters told the court Mizner wasn't in possession of a passport when he was arrested at the airport last night after "arriving from Asia".

He said Mizner had previously been behind bars in Thailand.

The case will return to court on February 13.

Gold Coast Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent Kerry Johnson said the resulting arrest was an example of fine police work.

"This has had a major impact on the life of a child and our job as police is to protect those children," he said.

The charges, which relate to one child, come after police were first made aware of the complaint in November 2005.

Det Sup Johnson would not reveal the man's relationship to the child.

"It can just be one incident and even that impacts on a child's life," he said.

"There will be a lot of support needed for that child well into the future.

"This has had a major impact on the victim and they will have to work through that."
