Man charged over multiple thefts

TWEED/Byron Local Area Command police have recovered a large amount of property, believed to be the proceeds of recent break and enters.

Police were called to Marana Street, Bilambil Heights, about 10.30pm on Tuesday after homeowners disturbed a man on the premises.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in a street nearby a short time later. Police will allege items allegedly stolen from three homes in Marana Street were found in his possession.

The man, from Uki, was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter and one count of break enter and steal.

He was refused bail and appeared in Murwillumbah Local Court this morning.

Following further investigation, police executed a search warrant on a unit in Bilambil Heights earlier today, where they located a large amount of property reported stolen during earlier break and enters.

The property included household items, luggage, jewellery, cash, electrical equipment and personal items.

An inventory of the property seized is continuing and investigations are on-going.

At his Murwillumbah court appearance, the man was bail refused to re-appear in court at a date to be set.
