Man charged over brazen robbery

A 29-year-old Lismore man has been charged with robbing a 73-year-old after a brazen incident in McKenzie Street, Lismore, on Monday.

Police allege the victim was stopped in his car by a woman just before 3pm and then the alleged offender approached the vehicle, leant into the car and punched the victim a number of times.

The offender attempted to take the keys from the ignition but was prevented by the victim and after a scuffle he stole the victim’s wallet which had some money in it.

The offender and the woman then escaped to nearby flats but they were located a short time later by police and the man was arrested at the scene.

He was charged with robbery and bailed at Lismore Local Court.
