Man charged over attempted car theft in Ballina

A 27-year-old who allegedly attempted to steal a car from a residential address in Ballina before fleeing on foot has been charged with aggravated break and enter and stealing.

Richmond Local Area Command Inspector Bill McKenna said police will allege the man entered the Crane St premises at about 3am Tuesday morning.

Insp. McKenna said the 27-year-old disturbed the occupants and attempted to steal a motor vehicle.

During the would-be-theft, the offender was confronted by an occupant and fled the property on foot.

Following a number of enquiries, police attended an address in Ballina and the 27-year-old man was charged.

The man is set to appear in the Ballina Local Court on January 21.
