Man allegedly sexually assaulted child over nine years
A MAN who police allege sexually assaulted a young girl repeatedly from the age of four to 13 has appeared in court after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Police acting on information received from the girl applied to the court for a warrant to be issued for the 67-year-old's arrest.
The warrant was circulated among NSW and Queensland police until officers traced the man to Horse Camp, a locality near Bundaberg, Queensland.
The man was arrested by Bundaberg police and extradited to NSW where he was charged at Ballina Police station with 22 counts of assaulting a female and committing an act of indecency on a person less than 16, two counts of rape and one count of buggery.
Court documents showed the man allegedly assaulted the girl from 1969 to 1978.
Police facts allege the assaults occurred at Billinudgel, Canobolas, Orange, Woolooware, Mortdale, Marrickville, Cudgen QLD, Moorland, Cronulla and Kurnell.
The man did not appear in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday after his solicitor Hugh Van Dugteren requested that his appearance via video link be cancelled.
Mr Van Dugteren asked Magistrate David Heilpern for the man's matters to be adjourned for six weeks so he can negotiate the charges with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He did not apply for bail for the man, which was formally refused by Mr Heilpern.
Mr Heilpern adjourned the man's matters until a date in December.
