Man accused of murdering partner appears in court

A MAN charged with murdering his partner in Charleville in 2009 has faced the Roma St courthouse in Brisbane.

Police allege Louis James Mahoney, 42, murdered Lainie Coldwell.

Ms Coldwell was found with a severe head injury at the base of a large tree on Walter Street, Charleville, on August 23, 2009.

Queensland Police's cold case team forensically reviewed the circumstances of Ms Coldwell's death, including injuries sustained before the homicide unit arrested Mr Mahoney.

Mr Mahoney also faces four attempted fraud charges relating to insurance and superannuation claims.
He did not enter any pleas.

People facing a murder charge must apply for bail in the supreme court and Mr Mahoney was subsequently refused bail.
The matter was referred to the Charleville Magistrates Court for a committal call-over on January 18.

If Mr Mahoney applies for bail in the supreme court and it is refused, he will appear by videolink.

Ms Coldwell's family were in the courtroom when Mr Mahoney appeared briefly in the magistrates court.

They chose not to speak to media outside the courthouse.

Queensland Police are appealing for information from the public which may help with their investigations.

Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
