Man, 94, attacked in his home

A FORMER Mullumbimby banana farmer was bashed in his house at Wellington Point, Queensland, last night.

Police said about 10pm offenders broke into the Station Street home of Ray Lee, 94, and attacked him.

The Wynnum Herald reported this morning a neighbour and close friend, who did not want to be named, said residents were shocked at the callous attack which had left Mr Lee with serious injuries.

The newspaper reported Mr Lee was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, underwent surgery and was reported to be in an induced coma.

``He had tea over here last night and I took him home at 6.45pm. I saw him to his door,’’ the neighbour told the newspaper.

``He’s a great old fella. His grand-daughter just rang me and told me he was operated on this morning. He has internal bruising, teeth missing and a smashed jaw.’‘

The newspaper reported Mr Lee moved to the street from Mullumbimby about 15 years ago.

Police said a personal alarm had activated about 10pm and attracted neighbours to the property.

The newspaper reported neighbours found Mr Lee suffering facial injuries and alerted emergency services.

Police are still investigating.
