Man, 70, on sex assault charges

A MAN, 70, has been charged with sexually assaulting a Tweed Heads boy in the late 1990s.

Tweed Heads detectives flew to Victoria earlier this week and arrested the man on Monday.

He was taken to Melbourne Magistrates Court where extradition to NSW was granted.

On arrival in NSW the man was charged with a string of offences allegedly committed between August 1999 and February 2002.

These include two counts of homosexual intercourse with a male aged between 10 and 18, two counts of detain for advantage, eight counts of aggravated indecent assault of a victim under 16 years, four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16 years, four counts of aggravated act of indecency of a victim under 16, incite person under 16 years to commit an act of indecency, three counts of commit act of indecency with a person under 16 years, four counts of assault with act of indecency and sexual assault without consent.

He was refused bail at Tweed Heads Court yesterday and will face Lismore District Court on Tuesday.
