Man, 43, held over drug raid

A 43-YEAR-OLD Evans Head man was arrested and charged after police raided his property yesterday morning.

Officers arrived at the property about 7.45am, seizing 46 cannabis plants and more than 10 kilograms of cannabis leaf.

A large hydroponic set-up was found in one of the sheds on the rural property, hidden in a secret room concealed by corrugated iron.

Police also seized a .22 calibre rifle, as well as a motor vehicle which is suspected of being stolen.

The man was charged with cultivation of a prohibited plant, possession of a prohibited drug, firearm offences and goods in custody for the motor vehicle.

The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at more than $200,000.

Lismore Crime Prevention Officer Snr Const Michael Hogan said the community was directly responsible for yesterday's police operation.

"This operation was a result of community assistance," Snr Const Hogan said.

"It's more drugs off our streets.

It's good work by the police and good public relations.

"I'd like to encourage members of the community to continue to provide information to police."

The man was refused bail and will appear in the Lismore Local Court on July 22.
