Macklin visits Goonellabah workers
MINISTER for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs Jenny Macklin visited Target in Goonellabah this morning.
Target offers their employees a separate 12-week paid parental leave scheme, and when added to the new federal paid parental leave scheme, gives their employees up to six months leave.
Soon-to-be-parents will see more financial and political support from the start of next year.
Australia's first Paid Parental Leave Scheme will be available to families from January 1.
Families will receive 18 weeks parental leave at the national minimum wage rate of $570.
Ms Macklin said fathers as well as mothers were included in the scheme.
