Lucky escape for hapless boatie

A MAN who fell from his three metre aluminium dingy in the Brunswick River was lucky to escape uninjured as he swam to safety about 7am this morning.

According to witnesses the man, who is thought to be holidaying at Massey Greene Holiday Park, was on the river alone near the bar without a lifejacket when he was tossed from the boat after letting go of the tiller.

With the outboard engine still running, the man managed to swim away from the circling craft and reach the north bank where he signalled for help.

Brunswick Volunteer Marine Rescue volunteers were on-hand preparing to launch their rescue craft, Sea Rescue 1,  but the man was picked up by another boatie also thought to be from the holiday park.

The man was uninjured and the boat was salvaged.

Police attended the scene and are conducting further inquiries.
