Low-cost housing proposal refused

THE Northern Joint Regional Planning Panel has refused a development application for an affordable rental housing estate in Tallow Wood Plce and Greenfield Road, Lennox Head.

Panel chair Garry West said "the panel acknowledges that there is a need for affordable housing in the Ballina Shire, however after consideration of the DA, it has concluded that the proposed development is not consistent with relevant land use, planning regulations or development controls applicable to the site and has, therefore, had to refuse consent for the application".

“The panel considers that it would not be in the public interest to consent to the development considering these inconsistencies and the impact they could have upon the surrounding environment,” he said.
