Long road ahead

NOT many dogs can say they have their own Facebook page but Della, a two-year-old border collie-cross cattle dog, can.

Along with her owner Maricy Dalsanto and fellow pet, Lucky, the four-year-old horse, Della is in training to do a 5000km walk starting at Coraki and ending in Dampier, WA.

"We are raising money for the Animal Welfare League and PETA," Ms Dalsanto said.

"We are starting out on our trip on September 3 from Coraki and people will be able to follow us on our Facebook page called Della's Destiny."

Locals would have seen Ms Dalsanto, Lucky and Della walking between Coraki and Evans Head over the weekend as part of a trial trip.

"I'm hoping to be able to walk at 5kmh and do eight hours a day, but so far we've only achieved 4.4kmh," she said.

"While I hope to do the walk in four months it may take us about seven to eight months."

Everyone will pull their weight on the walk, including Della, who has her own saddlebags, just like Lucky.

To follow their progress, 'like' the Facebook page, which will be updated regularly with photos and stories of their adventures.
