Long awaited approval for Bangalow pool

AFTER more than 10 years of campaigning and fundraising the Bangalow Pool Trust has received approval to build the town's long awaited pool.

President of the Trust, award winning architect Dominic Finlay-Jones, said the Trust can now move full steam ahead with fundraising.

"We already have over $250, 000 raised by the community but we need over $1 million to finish the project," he said.

"This is a very important milestone for us as it allows us to apply for Regional Development Grants and grants from Sport and Recreation."

The grass roots campaign to raise money was well known around town with the fundraising thermometer tracking donations prominent on the front of the Bangalow Post Office.

Ruth Ryan from Barebones Art Space is one local who has been involved in the campaign right from its genesis 20 years ago.

"We are all absolutely over the moon to get it through," Ms Ryan said.

The 25-metre, eight-lane pool, designed by Dominic Finlay-Jones Architects and Lucid Metals, will also include a shaded toddler pool, community facilities and a multi-purpose recreation room.
