Body builder's strict diet pays off in Vegas

LONDE Iki was upset when he injured his hamstring at the start of this year's rugby league season.

However it could have been a blessing in disguise for the Souths player.

Iki decided to begin competitive body building and the big man is proving himself on the world stage.

He returned from Las Vegas this week, where he competed at the International Natural Body Building Association Global Championships.

"The competition was really competitive," he said.

"To be competing against the best in the world was a great experience. I didn't get a placement but it was just a great experience."

Iki said when he tore his hamstring at the start of the year, he just decided to try something different.

"Anytime Fitness's Matt Chilingirian kept pushing me to do body building, but I only wanted to play footy, so when I got injured I decided to try the sport," he said.

The global competition was just Iki's fourth tournament.

Despite body building for four months, Iki has won two Australian competitions, also coming fourth in the nationals.

Iki's menu

The Mackay body builder is sick of chicken. To get ready for the Las Vegas competition, Iki was on a strict diet. He ate five meals of chicken, sweet potato and vegetables each day.

"Once you get on stage it pays off though," he said.
