Locals in Aus Day honours list
FOUR Northern Rivers' residents have been honoured in the Australia Day honours list for 2014.
Paralympian super-swimmer Jacqueline Freney from Skenners Head was not only named Young Australian of the Year, she was also awarded on OAM for her service to sport.
Casino GP Jurriaan Jan Beek was also award an OAM for his service to medicine and the community. As well as practising medicine, Dr Beek teaches extensively and claims to have delivered half of the babies born in Casino during his 34 years in the town.
Former Ballina Shire Citizen of the Year in 2012, Col Lee also received an OAM for his services to the community. Mr Lee has been involved in numerous community organisations and was involved in fundraising $200,000 for Our House.
Finally Kyogle's quiet achiever Margaret Ellis also got a gong for her contribution to the Kyogle community.
