Local trainer aims filly for Golden Slipper

TRAINER Gabrielle Englebrecht will know tomorrow if Aghna will be her first Golden Slipper runner after the filly runs in the $150,000 Group 3 Widden Stakes at Rosehill.

The daughter of Foxwedge has raced only once, a third to the brilliant Capitalist at Wyong on December 17, and is coming off an impressive trial win on January 12.

She covered 838 metres that day in 48.70 seconds and Englebrecht is sure she has her ready to go.

"She's going super," Englebrecht said.

"Her run behind Capitalist in the Wyong Magic Millions was outstanding and she's improved since then."

Despite having just the one start under her belt, Aghna is racing with more maturity than that and won't be daunted by the tough task tomorrow.

"Her racing manners are actually very good for a horse as inexperienced as her," Englebrecht said.

"She's an exciting filly on the way up. She's very professional and switched on like a little firecracker."
