YOUR STORY: Local teen helping refugees
LOCAL teenager, Freyja Catron, has decided to commit the remainder of her gap year to helping refugees in Croatia.
After completing her HSC at Mullumbimby High school last year, Freyja hit the road, working in Iceland and travelling through Greece, Germany and Portugal.
However it has been hard to ignore the plight of the thousands of refugees arriving daily in Europe.
"Something that has been very clear to me during my time in Europe is that the refugee crisis is far from being over and the organisations helping refugees are stretched thin with little help coming in.
"This is why I've decided to try and do my bit to help people who literally have nothing."
Freyja is now crowd funding to raise money to help out at a new refugee camp in Slavonski Brod, Croatia.
