Junior Championships underway

LOCAL surfers will look to give Australia a full set of world surfing champions when the ASP World Junior Championships get underway at North Narrabeen tomorrow.

Owen Wright (Lennox Head), Stuart Kennedy (Lennox Head) and Garret Parkes (Byron Bay) will compete for the junior men’s title while Tyler Wright (Lennox Head) will fly the flag for the Far North Coast in the junior women’s.

The Wrights are favourites to take out their respective events which boast the best juniors worldwide from 2009.

With Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore having already wrapped up the men’s and women’s crowns for 2009, the Australian juniors have the chance to claim an unprecedented clean sweep of all four divisions.
