LISMORE Kyokushin Karate expert Trish Tan has qualified for the Australian National All Styles Martial Arts Championships in December.

She placed second in three events at the recent Queensland championships to earn further selection.

Tan finished second in the veterans continuous and point sparring events, but the highlight of the day was placing second in the Creative Weapons division.

"It was fantastic competing with my two coaches and getting such a great result," Tan said.

"I decided to enter at the last moment and we only had two weeks to prepare and train for the demonstration."

Tan trains at the Lismore Kyokushin Karate dojo.

"Fighting in the National All Styles is very different to our own fighting, where I am regularly sparring against males and we actually make contact, whereas the NAS is all non-contact," she said.

"Some of the other women are amazed that I fight contact."

Tan is a regular competitor in the National All Styles, regularly winning and gaining places in both the rounds and the Queensland state championships.

In the national titles she hopes to continue her success from last year, when she placed second and third.
