Local artists receive grants

LOCAL artists Paul Andrew and Gillian Mears have each received an Arts Projects grant through the Australia Council's September core grants program, Page MP Kevin Hogan has revealed.

"These grants enrich our communities by giving our local artists opportunities to create new works, develop their professional skills and entertain both Australian and international audiences," Mr Hogan said.

Paul Andrews received $49,912 for visual arts, while Gillian Mears received $50,000 for literature.

Total funding of $10.4 million was provided to 290 projects to be delivered by individuals, groups and small to medium arts organisations.

Minister for the Arts, Mitch Fifield said the Australian Government is committed to supporting Australian artists and arts organisations, and providing opportunities for them to showcase their work to audiences.

The Australia Council's core grants program supports the creation and presentation of new artistic work, increases access and participation in the arts across Australia, and builds the profile of Australian arts and culture both nationally and internationally.

Applications for the next grants round close in February 2016.
