Liverpool puts further pressure on Mourinho

OWNER Roman Abramovich was not at the game, but is likely to meet Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho this week after yet another home defeat in the English Premier League.

The Blues went down to Liverpool 3-1 for a third home loss this season, leaving the club closer to the bottom of the table than the top in defence of their title.

Chelsea got off to a great start, scoring after three minutes, but things went downhill after Philippe Coutinho (pictured) equalised in first-half stoppage time.

Mourinho was clearly unhappy Coutinho's goal came 35 seconds after the allocated two minutes of injury time, and that was amplified in the second half when Liverpool midfielder Lucas escaped a second yellow card just before Coutinho scored Liverpool's second.

Christian Benteke added a third to add to Chelsea's woes, but the manager later insisted he was still the man for the job.

Sources at the club confirmed the Portuguese was likely to be given at least another month to turn things around.

Meanwhile, Manchester City stayed top after a late penalty from Yaya Toure helped beat Norwich 2-1.

Arsenal notched a 3-0 win at Swansea, second-half goals to Olivier Giroud, Lauren Koscielny and Joel Campbell helping the Gunners stay second.

Surprise packet Leicester City leapfrogged Manchester United to go third after a 3-2 win at West Brom, with United playing a scoreless draw at West Brom.

Watford beat West Ham 2-0 at home, while Newcastle and Stoke drew 0-0.
