Lismore's new industrial estate takes shape
Image Designer Homes (IDH), a Murwillumbah business, is planning at least seven buildings on one of the two 2260 square metre sites it recently purchased.
An IDH director, Mark Penman, said the trendy-looking buildings would be built using local contractors and then sold off separately to interested businesses.
"Our development applications are ready to go to council, so we'll start moving after they are approved," Mr Penman said.
"I'm not really sure what we're planning to do with the other site."
Mr Penman said he hoped work would start in the next six months and that he had already contacted a couple of concreters and carpenters in Lismore in anticipation.
"We'll employ about eight guys for about a five-month period," he said.
"On top of that there will be concrete and the rest, which will all be sourced from the area."
Mr Penman said the decision to build in Lismore was due to the rate of growth in the area.
"We thought the project would work in Lismore as the area is always busy, coupled with the fact the land was so affordable," Mr Penman said.
Colliers International Northern NSW property specialist Brett Swales said the sales in stage two of the Lismore Industrial Estate had all been from word-of-mouth as they hadn't yet advertised the sites.
"Other purchasers, including freighters Carways Transport and speculative construction group Acetech, are also preparing to lodge development applications with Lismore City Council," Mr Swales said.
"Some of the site sales have come from existing local businesses who wish to expand to the new section."
Four out of 12 sites in stage two have been sold. One remains for sale in the stage one development.
The sites are priced from $330,000.
The 15-hectare industrial park, located in Wilson Street South at the northern end of Lismore Airport, will comprise four stages.
