Lismore’s dual link with the Big Bash
IT IS only fitting that cricket legend Adam Gilchrist is on commentary when Simon Milenko comes to the crease for the Brisbane Heat in the T20 Big Bash.
Gilchrist is the most famous cricketer from Lismore, while Milenko is relatively new on the scene.
Milenko first played at Eureka before playing the rest of his junior cricket in Lismore.
The 25-year-old made a quick cameo with a four and six in his 13 runs against the Melbourne Stars at the Gabba on Sunday night.
It was the first win of the season for Brisbane as they scraped through in a thrilling one-run win.
Milenko has had the chance to rub shoulders with the likes of internationals Andrew Flintoff and Daniel Vettori, who have played in both Big Bash games so far.
The Heat also has Australian Test players Joe Burns, Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson under contract.
Milenko made his debut for Queensland in the Matador Cup one-day competition earlier this season.
Brisbane plays the Hobart Hurricanes on Friday night before another game at the Gabba against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.
Meanwhile, former Lismore junior Tom Cooper has been playing for the Melbourne Renegades.
The Renegades play the Sydney Thunder at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne tonight.
