Lismore's carols get the X Factor

LOCALS at the Lismore Christmas carols event this weekend will get a little extra 'wow' factor this year with popular X Factor stars Jess and Matt headlining the family event.

Sydney pop duo Jess Dunbar and Matt Price - a couple in life as well as on stage - became a sensation on the 2015 season of Australia's X Factor, securing a spot in the grand finals with their beautiful harmonies and quirky renditions of hit songs.

Lismore City Council Tourism and Events Manager Mitch Lowe said he was excited to have Jess and Matt headlining Lismore's annual community carols event, the 2016 Shopbaby Carols in the Heart, this Sunday, 11 December.

"This duo would be a favourite with many youngsters, and being able to see them live at Christmas time is fantastic," Mr Low said.

"This is free fun at its best and a wonderful way to bring the joy of Christmas to children without spending a fortune.

"We want to see Oakes Oval filled with thousands of locals, so bring a picnic rug or a blanket and come on down for a beautiful evening of Christmas carols, entertainment and fireworks."

Gates at Oakes Oval open at 4pm with free children's activities including face painting, jumping castle and letter writing to Santa.

Entertainment starts at 6pm with the Trinity Choir and Kadina Choir, Luke Vassella, Lismore Ministers' Fellowship Group, musicians from the Northern Rivers Conservatorium and RED Inc, followed by headline act Jess and Matt.

The night will also feature the one and only Santa, NBN TV newsreader Paul Lobb as MC and a huge fireworks display at 8.45pm.

Battery-operated candles will be for sale, and food and refreshments will be provided by the Lismore City Lions Club, Goonellabah Lions Club, the Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and the House With No Steps.

All proceeds from these sales will go to local charity Jodie's Inspiration.

Entry to the event is free.
