AUSTRALIA'S strongest man failed in his attempt to set the World Record for the heaviest stone lift in Lismore today.

Derek Boyer made two attempts to lift the 760kg stone before deciding the straps around the stone which were attached to a harness he was wearing, were unbalanced.

Exhausted and disappointed Mr Boyer vowed to spend the next few months building his strength before re-attempting the lift in Lismore again.

"I won't sleep properly until its done," the former Gladiators star said.

Mr Boyer has been Australia's Strongest Man for 13 years.
