Lismore MP's son is acquitted of all charges

LISMORE MP, Thomas George and his family have expressed their great relief at the acquittal yesterday of drug charges involving Mr George’s 32-year old son Brendan, who’s spent the past 18 months in jail, awaiting the court case.

Brendan George, who was a member of the Lone Wolves motorcycle gang, was stopped by police for a random breath test in Casino in March last year.

Police alleged they found amphetamines and several thousand dollars cash in the car and pressed drug charges as well as a charge of having goods, in this case cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, in his custody.

Brendan pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing a prohibited drug but contested two other charges. He also faced charges of participating in a criminal gang and supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

Yesterday in a Sydney court, Brendan George was acquitted of all charges and walked free.
out of the court a free man.

“It’s just so wonderful to be able to touch and cuddle him,” his father Thomas said last night.
Mr George said they had only been able to spend a few hours with Brendan.

“He’s not well at the moment and we don’t know how he’s going to be.after 18 months in jail” said Mr George.

Brendan’s family has been in Sydney for the past week to support him during the court hearing.
