Local competitors claim 21 trophies at national titles

COMPETITORS from Lismore's Success Martial Arts collected 21 trophies at the NAS national martial arts titles.

They were among more than 350 martial arts exponents from across Australia who competed in the All Styles National Martial Arts Championships over two days at Carrara Sports Stadium on the Gold Coast.

The participants were vying for national titles in a range of disciplines and age divisions.

Jakirra Graham, 16, won the senior girls point sparring, senior girls continuous sparring and senior girls teams event.

Kalon Davis, 7, showed determination and focus beyond his years to win the Peewees division. Only four years ago Kalon was fighting for his life with a severe embolism.

Success Martial Arts teachers Jeff Smith and Debbie Lindsay led by example, with Smith third in the men's veterans sparring and Lindsay second in the women's veterans sparring.

Head instructor Richard Marlin claimed the men's black belt lightweight division national title and brought Queensland home against NSW in the men's teams event.
