Armed thugs invade Lismore home
A 27-YEAR-OLD Lismore man was just sitting down to watch the football at home on Monday night when two armed bandits burst through his front door wielding a shotgun and demanding money.
The masked thugs kicked in the front door about 9.30pm assaulting the man and terrorising three women before escaping with a small amount of cash, a backpack and three handbags.
The male victim was taken to the Lismore Base Hospital for treatment before being discharged.
“We gave them everything we had,” said the bruised and battered resident, who asked not to be named. “We were broken into a fortnight ago so we didn't have much. It was frightening. Like something out of a movie.”
Armed with a sawn-off double barrelled shotgun and an iron bar, the two assailants were last seen running from the Parkes Street premises. Police have issued an appeal for any information to assist them apprehending the pair.
Neighbours were shocked to hear of the home invasion yesterday, describing the street as a quiet and friendly area.
Rex Upton has been living in Parkes Street for a year.
“Apart from a few thefts it's a pretty good area,” he said.
“Those guys did get robbed recently, but other than that it's just been trivial stuff like a stolen bird bath and a clothes line, full of clothes, which was strange.
“I was out last night, but I'm very surprised it happened as Darcy Goodwin sets up his free food stall in the park right beside that house every Monday night and it's usually very well conducted.”
Richmond crime manager Inspector Greg Moore said police were anxious to resolve the violent robbery.
“This was a very traumatic incident for those occupants, hence our vigour in identifying the assailants,” he said.
Both assailants are described as Caucasian and aged in their early 20s.
The first man is described as being about 170cm tall with a medium build and wearing a white jumper with a hood and blue denim jeans. The second man is described as being about 180cm tall with a solid build wearing a grey-coloured jumper with a hood, a red bandana over his face and blue denim jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Lismore police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
