Lismore club to host championships

LISMORE Workers Golf Club will host the 2010 Northern NSW Regional Championships next month.

Convenor Phil Creary said more than 160 players from 60 clubs from Tweed Heads to Coffs and west to Wee Waa had been invited.

“We’ll have players from places like Armidale, Coonabarabran, Gunnedah, Guyra, Moree and across the Northern Rivers,” he said.

“Each Northern NSW district hosts the championships every five years, and we’ll be looking for as many locals as possible to nominate for the two-day event.

“There will be a district teams competition (open and junior divisions) where each district plays one another, as well as individual events.

“Nomination is $25 per person per day and that will include a barbecue lunch. Dinner is available on Saturday night but people will need to book on 66212255.”

Nominations, closing August 25, can be sent to pcreary@summerland.com.au, or phone the pro shop on 66216016 or fax 66216340.

Leading players expected to nominate include Robert Elkington (Coolangatta-Tweed Heads); Phil Daley, Robert Carson, and Kurt Freeman (Ballina); Michael Brown (Murwillumbah); Nathan Streckfuss (Coraki); and Brett Forrester, Brenton Parrish and John Rixon (Lismore).
