Lismore City breaks through with their first win

LISMORE came up with its first win of the Far North Coast rugby union season while defending premiers Wollongbar-Alstonville were made to work hard to get the points against Southern Cross University.

In other games on Saturday, Byron Bay thrashed Lennox Head and Ballina defeated Bangalow.

Prop Damien Keys crossed for three tries in the Greens’ 27-19 away win over Casino.

Lismore led 10-5 at half-time.

The Bulls have also been restricted to a single win.

At Maurie Ryan Oval in Lismore, winless SCU put in a strong effort against the Pioneers, going down 22-19 after trailing by only one point at the break.

It was a different story at Lennox Head, where competition leaders Byron Bay cantered to a big lead at half-time before a more even second half resulted in a full-time scoreline of 40-7.

And Ballina downed Bangalow 28-17 to move the Seahorses to within a point of the top four.
