Lismore Base gets $2.7m machine
UP to 800 cancer patients a year can access treatment locally rather than have to travel further afield now that a second linear accelerator radiation machine is fully operational at Lismore Base Hospital.
"The waiting list is almost gone," North Coast Cancer Institute area director Prof Tom Shakespeare said.
"These machines are a great advance in technology on even five years ago.
"They are very focused, very accurate and will be used more and more in the treatment of different types of cancer."
Most of the funding for the $2.7 million machine has come from the Federal Government.
