Lions move on from the shock of Voss sacking

BRISBANE Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger says his teammates are a content playing group despite the swift departure of former coach Michael Voss.

The 10th-placed Lions have a slim chance of making the finals after yesterday's decision ruling the Bombers out of September action, and Leuenberger (pictured) believes his teammates have moved on from Voss's sacking.

"You can't really dwell on it. It feels like forever ago now," he said.

"When I signed my contract, I was aware Vossy was out of contract.

"He's a large reason why we're doing what we're doing right now (winning three of their past four games). He set it all up."

Leuenberger said he would have no guilt playing finals footy at the expense of the Bombers.

"Someone like me, I haven't played finals footy, so if I get the opportunity I'll take it," he said.

The Perth native is not up in arms about changes to the interchange rule next season, with substitutions to be capped at 120 per team.

"It doesn't really seem like that much when you're talking from 135 to 120, so it'll be interesting to see what happens," he said.

The 204cm Leuenberger has mostly played as the sole tall this season and says it is possible teams may have to play two ruckmen because of the interchange cap.

"It's one of my strengths being able to run, so it doesn't really bother me," he said, "but it might become more important to have a genuine back-up ruckman, perhaps, so you can go forward and have a genuine one come in."
