Lismore fountain restoration work finally starts

LISMORE City Council have posted on their Facebook page that work has begun on restoring the Lions fountain outside Lismore City Hall.

Following strong community opposition about a proposal to demolish the fountain and replace with a public artwork last year, council resolved instead to refurbish the much-loved fountain as well as install the public artwork.

The fountain repairs are now under way and water should be flowing again in the next few months.

Meanwhile, work has also begun on the public art project by local artist Scott Harrower, which will depict the history and achievements of Lions through six large mosaic art pieces.

The birthplace of Lions in Australia was Lismore and the fountain and the public artwork will now sit alongside one another, paying tribute to the rich history of this great movement.
