Lions chip in for Evans Head fire victims

THE Lions Club of Mid-Richmond River has made a donation to the Torrens family of Evans Head, who lost all their possessions in a house fire last month.

Tim and Dianne Torrens were given the voucher to spend at the SPAR Supermarket in Evans Head.

The Mid-Richmond community has rallied to support them.

"I want to thank the community for their support for helping me and my family and we are so grateful for all that was received," Dianne Torrens said.

"I have been living in this town for 19 years and know quite a lot of people but have seen a wonderful new side to people. They have been so helpful and kind."

Lions Club president Joan Smedley said: "The Lions Club is happy to help."

Catherine O'Halloran from the Neighbourhood Centre said the centre became involved because the Torrens family "is an important and valued family within our community".

"We are also collecting donations to support them to rebuild. If anyone would like to contribute, they can come into the centre or call us on 6682 4334," she said.
