Stacey aiming to be top lifesaver

KIRRA Surf Lifesaving Club has a born winner in its entrant for the Jupiters Summer Surf Girl competition.

Stacey Ferreira is kick-starting her campaign for the 2012/13 season with a launch party on August 25 to help raise much-needed funds for her surf club.

As a part of the program, Ms Ferreira will spend up to 12 months fundraising for her club and raising surf safety awareness in the community before heading to the Gold Coast for final judging in May next year.

She will then have the chance to become an official ambassador for Surf Life Saving Queensland, after being judged on elements such as her core surf lifesaving skills and knowledge and her community spirit.

"One hundred per cent of the funds raised within the community will go directly into purchasing the vital surf safety and rescue equipment that is required to keep our beach safe," Ms Ferreira said.

"This benefits the local community, along with the many tourists who visit our beach each year.

"Throughout the year I will also promote surf safety awareness while maintaining my role as a volunteer patrolling surf lifesaver, watching over the many visitors to Kirra SLSC during the summer months."

The program has helped Queensland surf lifesaving clubs to raise more than $12.5 million over the past 48 years.

Last year entrants raised over $1 million dollars for their clubs.

This year marks the 19th consecutive year that Jupiters has partnered with Surf Life Saving Queensland as the naming rights sponsor for the Summer Surf Girl program.
