Library books donated as a tribute to POW in Changi

RON Sweeney was the last surviving member of the Casino RSL Sub Branch who was a Prisoner of War.

He died in September and his family gathered at Casino Library this week to make a book presentation in his honour.

Sub Branch president Kevin Magnay said it was the end of an era.

Ron Sweeney served in the 2nd 30th Battalion and was recovered from Changi in 1945.

The books – Galleghans Greyhounds, Changi Camera, The Happiness Box, Splinters Story and Blackjack – are a way to honour and remember him.

All books are available for loan.
