LETTERS: Minister had ‘no knowledge’ of CSG CD
THE NSW Department of Industry, Resources & Energy has responded to The Northern Star after it was caught out distributing promotional material to foreign investors which spruiked the North Coast's CSG potential.
You can get the full background story here.
In a letter responding to an editorial from Northern Star editor David Kirkpatrick, the department stated: "The Minister, nor his staff, had prior knowledge of this material."
The department has made a full and unreserved apology for releasing unclear promotional material that has now been withdrawn.
The letter from the department to The Northern Star:
A letter from Labor candidate for Page Janelle Saffin also asked the Minister some curly questions, to which she has not yet seen a response. They include:
> How many mining investors have been provided the CD-ROM promoting CSG opportunities on the North Coast?
> Why was the CD-ROM produced, and how widely has it been distributed?
> Who requested the production of the CD-ROM?
> Did you or your office approve the CD-ROM, or express any concerns about its content before it was distributed to potential investors?
Ms Saffin also requested that the department "inform all recipients that the CD-ROM contains erroneous information about the potential for CSG mining in the North Coast and Northern Rivers region".
