Let’s drink to what community needs

THE issue of fluoridated water in Ballina is a highly emotional one, as can be attested by our letters pages in the past few months.

Many of these have been heated on both sides of the fence and name calling has been rife.

Now it seems someone has stepped forward to encourage residents in Ballina to take action to stop fluoridisation.

While I do not have a problem with fluoride, having grown up on the stuff, I have to commend anyone who feels passionately enough about an issue to stand up for what they think the community needs to do.

The battle lines in Ballina have now been clearly drawn.

As is his democratic right Ralph Moss and other protesters are calling a community meeting to discuss what they claim is a major health hazard.

According to Ballina mayor Phil Silver it is in the hands of NSW Health who, he says, know the risks involved and would come to the right decision.

Considering the way the NSW Government has been running this State in the past few years, I would say Cr Silver’s trust is misplaced.

There is little that I would trust to this wayward and arrogant Government.

It has made few decisions about our region in recent years that would generate confidence in anyone.
