Lennox bowlo gets the ball rolling

A MEETING between Ramsgate officials and representatives of the Lennox Head Bowling Club has produced "quite a positive result," said chairman of the new working committee, Pip Carter.

He said that during a meeting with the chief executive of Ramsgate on Wednesday, the Sydney-based company had given the community six months to get the club up and running.

Mr Carter said a meeting of more than 50 people in Lennox Head established a working committee and set in motion plans to get the club licensed, legal and open for business over the next couple of months.

He said the group had already lodged an application with the Department of Fair Trading to get a new name for the club, and once that was done, licences and funds can be gathered.

"From there we have to write to all existing members of the old club and put a notice out that there's a public meeting (and discuss the situation and the next steps)," he said.

During the next six months, although the bars and full operations of the club will not be running, Ballina Shire Council had given the working committee permission to allow interest groups to hold meetings on the premises.
