Lemanis to square off against former team
BASKETBALL: Brisbane Bullets coach Andrej Lemanis will be hoping he is the one with bragging rights after a reunion with some NBL championship winners tomorrow night.
Lemanis will come face to face with members of the New Zealand team he coached to NBL titles from 2011-13 when the Breakers visit the Brisbane Convention Centre.
In the visiting line-up will be Mika Vukona, Thomas Abercrombie, Alex Pledger and Corey Webster, who played in all three championships, along with 2011 championship team member Kirk Penney.
Lemanis will coach for the first time against the Breakers while Bullets swingman Reuben Te Rangi will also line up against his old club after making a return from an ankle injury in the defeat by Melbourne United last night.
The Breakers will also arrive after a defeat, going down 92-78 to the ladder-leading Sydney Kings in Auckland.
This followed a 76-71 home win over Melbourne United in round one of the season and a 75-72 away loss to the Perth Wildcats in round two.
Lemanis said there was plenty to learn from last night's defeat to Melbourne.
"I think we are still a new team who hasn't played together before and, as a result, when things are going against us we still haven't found our identity to stop the momentum before it gets out of control,” he said.
"If you look at the stats sheet there is a lot of things we did well. But it was compounded by the second quarter. The only quarter we lost, we got smashed in.
"That's the one we have to work our way through, whether that's me having to do my job and get us organised into some set plays.
"We are finding our way as a team to hold the fort while we get the game back under control.”
