Lefties wanted for big tourney

ENTRIES are still open for the 48th annual Left-Handed Golfers Association tournament on the Northern Rivers.

About 100 golfers from around Australia and New Zealand have entered with locals players encouraged to attend.

Organisers are hopeful of attracting more locals to fill the field.

The NSW Northern Rivers division of the National Association is hosting the event across the region at four different clubs.

It is the first time in about a decade the Northern Rivers has hosted the event which will run from October 13-18.

Ballina, Byron Bay, Casino and Ocean Shores will be the courses with the event open to male and female competitors with a handicap and affiliated with a left-handed organisation.

There will be thousands of dollars worth of trophies on offer with organisers

hopeful of attracting 150 players.

"There is great camaraderie between the left-handed players," Northern Rivers division president Dot Rose said.

"We've found it has brought left-handed players out of the woodwork for a national event.

"This is a great chance to see players that you only see once a year at an event like this."

Entries close Friday.
